| PARENTS - TALK TO YOUR
CHILDREN!
|
When seconds count... there is no higher priority than your
children's safety!
As responsible parents and teachers
it is imperative that we encourage and foster open
discussions with our children about preparing for a
disaster. It is no different than teaching your child to
dial 911 or to look both directions before crossing the
street. The
potential benefits of such education could be
lifesaving!
Please, don't monkey around when it comes to your children's safety!
Following a disaster, your children
may be alone, scared, confused and exceptionally
vulnerable.
At Banana Pack Disaster Sack
it is our goal to better assist you and your children in
being prepared before a
crisis, being responsive during a crisis, and finally
being diligent in moving beyond the crisis. We've made it our
business to put the essentials at your fingertips. Most
of the work has been done for you. However, children must still be taught what
to do - and that's up to you! Get ready now... you'll be glad you
did.
The following are some simple but
necessary steps that you should take to better prepare
your children:
-
Once you receive your child's Banana Pack "Kids Sack" review and discuss the
contents. Answer questions openly and honestly. Remind them this is
not a toy.
-
Complete Emergency ID & Contact Cards (laminate and keep one in the "Kids Sack"
& one at school or neighbors)). Encourage your
child to also memorize information.
-
Add any "special need" items to
their sack (Inhalers, required medication, etc.)
-
Include spare keys, a roll of
quarters, cash, and photo's of each family member/pet.
-
Keep a small bag packed and next
to their "Kids Sack" in the home,
car and at school with the following items: A pair of
comfortable and sturdy shoes; change of clothes (long
sleeve shirt, long pants, long socks, hat, gloves) and
extra face masks.
-
Review and complete your "Family Plan of Action Kit"
and your Quick Reference Guide found in you Banana Pack Disaster Sack "CLASSIC" or "TRACKER."
-
Teach your children about potential disasters specific to your area and
practice what to do for each type of disaster - both natural and man-made (Use
your Quick Reference Guide found in your Banana Pack Disaster Sack
"CLASSIC" or "TRACKER" and other recommended
materials/resources))
-
Teach your children exactly what
to do in the event they are forced to evacuate or
shelter-in-place.
Review these procedures on a regular
basis.
